No Face Masks to All the Masks

While I was in the car waiting to drop my kids off at preschool a few weeks ago, the principal and her assistant came out wearing face shields and face masks. My children have not been in school since March, so I was surprised at this change.

I looked around and felt like I had entered a science fiction movie.

“How did we get here so quickly?”

At that moment, I realized that our entire WORLD has changed in a matter of months. Think about it, early this year only medical professionals or people with compromised immune systems wore masks. Now, EVERY person is wearing one. And it’s completely normal.

Our world has changed completely in three months.

This made me think about how quickly things can change. When we have big goals, we tend to think they will take a long time. But we are the ones putting the time limits on these goals. If we can completely change the world in a matter of months, our world, our goals, that seem so big to us, can be achieved overnight.

I share this story because we are all in a state of transition. This year is not what we thought it would be. It is a great time to realize that what we think is impossible typically is not. Take your goals and make them bigger, dream bigger and push your expectations and your limitations to the next level. Take your biggest goal and cut the deadline in half. And believe that it will happen.

Would you have believed me if I told you in January that we would not have sports, schools would be cancelled, travel would be banned, and every person would be wearing a face mask in a mere three months?

Life can change in a heartbeat. Many of us associate change to something worse than our current circumstances. However, it’s typically the opposite. As we transition and go through change, it is uncomfortable. If we can relax into the discomfort, we will find ourselves in a much better place. Magic happens on the other side of being uncomfortable.

Get comfortable being uncomfortable.

Let’s make 2020 a year to remember-not because of Covid and face masks, but for positive change. Bigger goals, realignment of values, and realizing what is most important in life. We are going through change and it is uncomfortable. However, all of our hopes, goals and dreams are on the other side of transformation.

I choose to look at this year as a gift. A gift of realizing our true potential, pushing our limits, living in discomfort so that we can live a life that is truly worth living.

If we can change the world overnight, how quickly can we achieve our dreams?
