Fresh Insights from the Summer 2025 FranChoice Conference

Last month I attended FranChoice’s national franchise conference, and wow—I left with more energy, ideas, and inspiration than ever before!

With hundreds of franchise brands represented, the event was a chance to connect with familiar faces, discover exciting new concepts, and celebrate FranChoice’s 25-year anniversary. 

Having spent 21 of those years as a consultant (and almost 24 years in the industry overall), it was powerful to see just how steady and resilient franchising is.

It also reaffirmed something I’ve known for a long time: franchising is incredibly “sticky.” Once people step into this industry, they rarely want to leave. Surrounded by the energy of entrepreneurs, it’s easy to understand why.

That balance of stability and innovation is what makes franchising so unique. And I know the question on your mind: What’s new and exciting right now?

While there were dozens of impressive concepts, three trends and opportunities stood out the most.

 

1. Fresh Approaches to Senior Care

One of the most promising areas of growth is in services for the elderly. But I’m not talking about the typical senior care businesses you might be familiar with. I saw several concepts that are taking a fresh, innovative approach to serving this growing demographic.

This industry is a perfect storm of opportunity:

  • It’s recession-resistant. The need for these services doesn’t change with the economy.
  • The demographic is strong and growing. The senior population is expanding, loyal, and has disposable income.
  • It’s mission-driven. These models are about genuinely helping people and making a difference in their lives.

These unique concepts are carving out a new niche, offering a different kind of support that stands apart from the competition. For anyone looking for a business with both heart and a solid financial future, this is an area to watch.

 

2. Manager-Run Options for Professionals

The innovation didn’t stop there. Another area generating a lot of excitement was the rise of manager-run models—franchises that allow owners to keep their full-time jobs while building a business on the side.

A common question I get is, “Can I start a franchise while keeping my current job?” 

The answer is yes, and these concepts are built for exactly that. They give professionals a way to create an additional income stream and build an asset without leaving the security of their corporate career.

What makes these opportunities especially compelling is the strength of the leadership teams behind them. The brands I saw are backed by experienced teams who know how to scale responsibly and position franchisees for success.

These concepts are filling a gaping hole in the industry, and the demand is real. They are poised, ready, and offer a fantastic pathway for anyone who wants a strategic, lower-risk entry into business ownership while keeping their career intact.

 

3. Franchises Investing in Their Owners

Finally, I was excited to see a franchise concept that’s rethinking how brands support their owners. Instead of raising barriers to entry, this company is lowering them by offering substantial discounts on franchise fees.

This approach does two important things. It helps new franchisees get up and running more quickly, and it incentivizes multi-unit ownership from the start, allowing owners to establish a strong brand presence in their market much faster.

The goal is clear: to create well-capitalized owners who can scale with confidence and dominate their regions. For entrepreneurs with big ambitions, this kind of model is a powerful opportunity, and one that’s already showing impressive momentum.

It’s a refreshing reminder that innovation in franchising isn’t just about the consumer—it’s also about empowering the people who choose to invest in these businesses.
