The last five candidates I’ve talked with have described their workplace right now as TOXIC.
Wow! That’s a strong word. But it’s so real right now.
Toxic environments in the workplace are unfortunately plaguing many companies in Corporate America. As a result, people are working longer hours, budgets have been cut, morale is low, and people are tired and worn out from working so much with little to no time off.
Covid has impacted all of us in many & different ways. Unfortunately, companies in Corporate America are not immune to this change. Some have experienced great growth, while others are stressed to the brink, and employees are on the receiving end.
Life is also speeding up and going back to normal, or at least normal as we now know it. Travel, commuting, and now our schedules are busting at the seams. Some people are excited to go back to the office; however, many are dreading it. They fear the long hours, the commute, parking, meetings, and leaving their families at home again.
While we don’t want to go back to the “Covid time,” many people crave flexibility, time with their families, and control of their day.
Caitlin Mullen of The Business Journals noted, “Telus International, which polled more than 1,000 working Americans, found half feel less connected to their company culture while they’ve been working from home.
Lots of benefits that employers rely on to bring in top talent have been diminished, whether it be physical locations, corporate retreats, employee outings, and even bonuses. As companies begin to rebuild what was lost, many employees feel the effects of burnout and loss of the bonds they once had.
People realize that the working environment they were accustomed to may never return, which is, in turn, piquing interest in new ways to work, one being franchising. During the pandemic, we started to look at life differently and put more emphasis on our values, our families, our health, and lowering our stress.
With a support system and proven processes, many are turning to the franchise industry to diversify their income, become their own boss, and simply have a change of pace. Franchising lends itself well to those looking to leave the corporate world while also minimizing risk. It is a way to be in control of your life and be in business for yourself but not by yourself.
Franchisees enjoy the ability to control their businesses and environments, and in turn, create a lifestyle and livelihood that works for them, post-pandemic.
