Top Franchise Trends for 2026

Industries and Business Models Shaping the Future

I just got back from the annual FranChoice conference, and it gave me a fresh perspective on where our industry is going. Usually, when I analyze the market, I group opportunities into two distinct buckets: the reliable “steady eddies” and the hot new franchise trends.

But this year, I actually noticed a third category emerging: industries that are so strong they actually fit into both.

I will be breaking these down into a series of posts, but today I want to start with the most forward-looking category: the trends.

If I had to sum up the theme for 2026, it would be “life by design.”

More and more people are looking to slow down, de-stress, and take better care of themselves, whether it’s buying back time by hiring someone to handle the dirty jobs or seeking out treatments to optimize their health and quality of life.

Here are the top franchise industries and business model trends I’m seeing for 2026.

1. The Wellness and Longevity Explosion

Hands down, the number one trend in franchising for 2026 is the evolution of wellness and longevity. The industry is moving beyond simple “recovery” and into true holistic health.

The kind of treatments that used to be reserved for pro athletes and celebrities are finally coming to the masses.

With consumers actively seeking to live longer and better, demand is surging for:

  • Bio-hacking and Diagnostics: Going to a location to get blood tested for biomarkers, and then receiving a personalized prescription for holistic healing based on actual data.
  • Advanced Therapies: Red light saunas, hyperbaric oxygen chambers, IV nutrition, and hot/cold therapy to build bodily resilience.
  • Hormonal Support: This is the next big buzzword. Peptides and hormone health—specifically support for perimenopause and menopause—are becoming everyday kitchen table discussions

2. Detoxification

Closely linked to longevity is the concept of detoxification. People are becoming a lot more aware of environmental toxins, like heavy metals and plastics in food and water, and are looking for ways to help their bodies hit the reset button.

This trend is popping up in:

  • Lymphatic Massage: Specialized treatments to aid the body’s natural detox systems.
  • Sauna-Based Workouts: Hot Pilates and yoga classes performed inside sauna environments to maximize the detox benefits during exercise.

3. The “Clean” Beauty Movement

Consumers are becoming hyper-aware of what they put on their bodies, not just in them.

While medical spas and Botox aren’t going anywhere, there is a massive shift toward organic and “clean” beauty solutions.

Trends are pointing toward organic facials, organic spray tans, and “clean” waxing products.

Also, hair extensions have become a booming business model. Women are realizing they can achieve that thick, long hair they want through a maintenance-based model, very similar to the recurring nature of eyelash extensions.

4. Healthy Food and Ingredients

People are becoming much more conscious of what’s in their food (and what’s not). The market is moving away from fried foods and heavily processed items, actively avoiding things like preservatives, seed oils, and nitrates.

The industry is responding with a rising interest in sourdough, gluten-free options, and personalized meal plans. Many people still want “quick” options, but they are prioritizing clean nutrition over convenience alone.

5. Residential Indoor Air Quality

Indoor air quality has been a “steady eddy” in commercial spaces (like hospitals and schools) for years, but it is now exploding as a trend in the residential market.

Homeowners are increasingly investing in air purifiers, vent cleaning, and dryer vent services. As health consciousness rises, people are realizing that the air inside the home needs to be just as safe as the food on the table.

6. Niche Home Services

This is all about buying back time. Homeowners are looking to outsource specific tasks to enjoy their weekends rather than working on the house. Highly specialized niche services are rising beyond general landscaping.

Top concepts include:

  • Grill Cleaning: A dirty job that no one wants to do.
  • Window Boxes: Bringing flowers and aesthetics to homes and businesses.
  • Artificial Turf: Replacing high-maintenance lawns with turf to eliminate mowing entirely.

7. All-in-One Home Remodeling

The home remodeling space is shifting toward a project management model. Customers are tired of trying to manage a dozen different vendors; they just want one person to handle it.

The trending model involves a “whole project” approach where clients can visit a showroom to see and touch materials, while a dedicated project manager oversees the renovation from the design phase all the way to completion.

8. Salon Rentals

In the beauty space, there is a shift in real estate models. Moving beyond standard salon suites, the trend is toward models that help salon professionals get on their feet, whether they are new stylists or industry veterans.

These concepts offer a more hands-off, manager-run model for the franchisee, focusing on renting chairs or providing space for professionals to build their own businesses.

Beyond Industries: Business Model Trends

As what people are buying changes, so is how franchisees are running their businesses. Here is what is happening behind the scenes:

  • AI Integration: Artificial intelligence is being used to reduce administrative burdens. Think marketing automation, AI receptionists, and call centers. This allows franchisees to focus on networking and building personal connections in their communities.
  • Multi-Unit, Multi-Brand Ownership: At its core, franchising is a rinse-and-repeat business model. Once you learn the system, you duplicate it. That’s why more entrepreneurs are moving beyond single-unit ownership and building multi-unit or multi-brand portfolios. They’re not just buying a job; they’re scaling a proven framework.
  • Smaller Footprints: To combat rising real estate costs, brands are finding ways to operate in smaller square footage, or even starting in salon suites before expanding to traditional retail locations.
  • The Younger Generation: As someone who started my own business at 25-26, I love this one. There is a wave of franchisees in their mid-20s (Gen Z) embracing entrepreneurship. Whether they’ve left corporate America early or grown up with entrepreneurial parents, their fresh perspectives are bringing innovation and energy to the industry.

Ready to Catch the Franchise Trends?

This year is shaping up to be an exciting time for franchising. Whether you’re drawn to wellness, niche services, or innovative business models, there’s something for everyone. These trends reflect where consumers are spending their money and what they value most: health, convenience, and quality of life.

If any of these trends pique your interest, let’s talk. I’d love to help you find the right fit for your goals and passions.
