Introducing the Trendy Steady Eddies

2026's Strongest Franchise Crossovers

Every year after the FranChoice conference, I put together my picks for the strongest franchise opportunities of the year: the trends I’m most excited about, and the “steady eddies”—reliable industries that have stood the test of time. But this year, a third category kept demanding its own spot: the Trendy Steady Eddies.

These are the crossover industries that didn’t fit neatly into either bucket because they belong in both. Strong roots. Growing momentum. And a consumer base that is actively spending in these spaces.

If the trends post was about where things are going, and the steady eddy post was about what’s always worked, this is where those two roads meet.

Here are the five industries that earned a spot in both categories for 2026.

1. All-in-One Wellness and Longevity

This is the big one. If I had to pick a single industry that defines the moment we’re in, it’s this.

Wellness has evolved far beyond gym memberships and green smoothies. What’s emerging now is a comprehensive, data-driven approach to health. The kind of experience that used to be reserved for professional athletes and celebrities is now being brought to everyday people through franchising.

Picture walking into one location, getting a blood test, and having someone analyze your biomarkers. From there, you receive a personalized protocol. Maybe red light sauna, hyperbaric oxygen, IV nutrition, supplements, or hot and cold therapy. Everything is driven by your actual biology, what your body specifically needs, not a one-size-fits-all approach.

Think of what Massage Envy did for massage therapy. It took something that felt exclusive and made it accessible. That is exactly what’s happening in wellness right now, and the franchise world is paying close attention.

Terms like peptides, biomarkers, and longevity are becoming kitchen-table conversations. People are paying attention to hormones, stress reduction, and what it actually means to age well. That shift in awareness is creating enormous demand, and the right franchise concepts are positioned to meet it.

People have always wanted to feel better and live longer. What’s changed is how they’re doing it.

2. Holistic Health and Personalized Nutrition

Closely related but distinct, holistic health is its own growing category. This includes personalized nutrition plans, organic eating, and a more intentional approach to what goes into the body and why.

The conversation around GLP-1 medications has opened a wider door here. People who start on a weight loss journey often find themselves more curious about their overall health: what they’re eating, what they’re absorbing, and how to sustain the results they’re seeing.

That curiosity is creating a customer base that wants guidance, structure, and products they can trust.

Clean ingredients, functional supplements, and eating plans tailored to the individual are all part of this. It mirrors what’s happening in the pet industry, the beauty industry, and the food space.

People want to understand what goes into it—and they expect real results.

3. Fitness for Seniors and Every Ability

Fitness has always been a steady eddy. But the way fitness is being delivered is shifting, and one of the most exciting developments is the focus on serving people over 45.

For a long time, the franchise fitness world largely targeted the 25 to 45 demographic: loud music, high-energy classes, and a certain aesthetic. That’s not going anywhere. But there is a growing recognition that older adults, people with injuries, and anyone who wants a more personalized experience have been underserved.

The models emerging in this space include one-on-one coaching for people managing specific physical limitations, mobile fitness concepts that go directly to clients’ homes or office buildings, and studio environments designed to feel welcoming rather than intimidating.

If you have a shoulder that isn’t quite right, or a hip that reminds you it’s there every morning, you’re not necessarily looking for a boot camp. You want a professional who understands your body and can help you move better and feel stronger, which is exactly the gap these franchise concepts are filling.

4. Pilates

Pilates deserves its own entry, and if you’ve tried to book a class lately, you already know why.

This is a category where demand is outpacing supply—studios are full, waitlists are common, and people who find a studio they love tend to stay for years because Pilates takes care of the body in a way that other modalities don’t always replicate.

It supports posture, builds core strength, protects joints, and scales well whether someone is a beginner or an advanced practitioner.

What’s happening now is a diversification within Pilates itself. The traditional, precise, quieter approach still has a loyal following. But newer concepts are bringing higher intensity, music, and a more energetic atmosphere to the format.

Hot Pilates is emerging as its own category. And like all great group fitness concepts, the community aspect is what keeps members coming back year after year.

5. Weight Loss Done Right

Weight loss has always driven consumer spending, but what’s changing is how people want to approach it. The quick fix is losing credibility. What people are increasingly looking for is a sustainable, medically sound approach that considers the whole person.

That means accountability, personalized plans, nutritional education, and support that extends beyond the scale. The best concepts in this space are not selling a product; they’re building a relationship with the client and helping them create lasting habits.

The interest in GLP-1 medications has brought millions of people into a broader health conversation, and many of them are looking for professional guidance on what to do alongside that.

Franchises that can provide the surrounding structure, nutrition support, and coaching are positioned to serve a large and motivated customer base.

Weight loss as a category has always had demand. The way that demand is being met right now is more thoughtful and personalized than ever before.

The Thread That Connects All Trendy Steady Eddies

Look across these five industries and a theme emerges: people are taking their health seriously in a new way. Not just going through the motions, but actually investing in understanding their bodies and making intentional choices.

That shift in mindset is creating franchising opportunities that are both grounded in real, ongoing human need and riding a genuine wave of innovation and consumer interest. When that combination shows up, it’s definitely worth paying attention.

If any of these resonate with you, let’s talk. I’ve spent time studying these industries, meeting founders, and vetting concepts, and I’m happy to share what I’m seeing. Let’s find out if one of these is the right fit for your goals and lifestyle.
